High-functioning
anxiety audit.

You look like you’re coping. It doesn’t always feel that way.

You get things done. From the outside, you look calm and capable.

You show up for everyone else. People probably describe you as capable, calm and reliable.

But inside, it’s different.

Your mind rarely switches off. You overthink conversations, put pressure on yourself to get everything right and struggle to truly relax. You keep going because that’s what you’ve always done, but it’s exhausting.

If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone.

This free 12-question audit is designed to help you understand what might be happening beneath the surface, and why simply “trying harder” isn’t the answer.

This isn't a test.

It isn’t about passing or failing.

It’s an opportunity to pause, reflect and recognise patterns that may have been quietly shaping your life for years.

At the end, you’ll receive gentle insights into your results, along with three practical tools you can start using straight away.

Sometimes understanding yourself is the first step towards feeling differently.

You might recognise yourself if…

If you’re nodding along, this audit was created for you.

Twenty years in the room with people who look fine.

For more than twenty years, I’ve helped people understand the hidden patterns driving anxiety, overwhelm and emotional exhaustion.

Again and again, I meet people who appear successful, capable and resilient, but privately feel like they’re carrying an invisible weight.

This audit brings together the patterns I see most often in my therapy room, alongside evidence-based psychological understanding, to help you make sense of your own experience.

Because understanding creates the possibility for change.

A gentle note.

High-functioning anxiety isn’t a formal clinical diagnosis.

This audit isn’t designed to diagnose or replace therapy. It’s created to help you better understand yourself and decide whether you might benefit from further support.

If your results raise concerns, I’d always encourage you to speak with your GP or a qualified mental health professional.

You don't have to
keep carrying it alone.

Sometimes the strongest thing we can do is stop pretending we’re fine. Take the first step towards understanding yourself a little more deeply.

Your questions, answered.

What is high-functioning anxiety?

High-functioning anxiety isn't a formal clinical diagnosis. It describes people who appear capable, organised and 'fine' on the outside, while running a constant background hum of worry, perfectionism, restlessness or self-criticism on the inside. The cost is usually paid in sleep, relationships, gut and mood, often years before anyone notices.

Is this a diagnostic test?

No. This audit is a thoughtfully designed self-reflection tool, not a diagnostic instrument. It's here to help you put words to a pattern you may have been carrying for a long time, and to suggest some next steps. If your results worry you, please speak to your GP or a qualified therapist.

Who is this for?

Adults who suspect their version of 'coping well' is costing more than it should. The audit is especially useful for high-performers, parents, carers and professionals who are praised for their reliability and rarely asked how they're actually doing.

Who designed it?

Sonya Black, a BABCP-accredited psychotherapist and therapeutic coach with over twenty years of experience across the NHS and private practice. The questions are drawn from the clinical patterns Sonya sees most often in her therapy room, and from the published literature on anxiety and perfectionism.

What happens to my answers?

Your answers stay in your browser. They aren't sent anywhere or stored. If you choose to share your email at the end, that's only used to send you the guide and Sonya's monthly letter.
