Working together

Let’s invest in you, for your future. Our work together can allow you to have the insights and understanding you need for real, tangible, long lasting change - that is hardwired - with a toolbox of techniques and strategies.

We can work together to treat issues that are problematic, e.g. anxiety disorders, stress, trauma or low mood, depression. I can help you to understand the underlying issues. We work together to develop an understanding of the difficulties you may be experiencing and develop strategies to help you overcome these. I have never met a person who doesn’t make sense in context of their life and experiences.

Learning to notice this, understanding how to manage it and recover and heal, can allow us to continue to live the life we want.

I am of the view that we are all human, and fallible by nature. Our mental health can slide into mental ill health in the same way we might catch a cold or flu, or develop an illness. It is how we respond to this that is important.

CBT treatment protocols are effective, it is not just about talking therapy, it is about our relationship with kindness and warmth, a safe space and practical strategies that help. CBT and my role, is about helping you to have the insights and understanding of yourself in the context of your experience, while supporting you to become your own therapist.

1 in 4 people will experience anxiety or depression. (WHO).

Initial stages of therapy tend to focus on compassion, understanding and practical strategies that can help, the first aid stage. Over time, we develop an understanding of you in the context of your life and experience. This understanding allows deeper insights and application of long lasting strategies and healing.

The healing and recovery stage - From our initial session, we work together to understand your difficulties, how they have developed and sometimes consider relevant past experiences. We develop an understanding of you in the context of your difficulties. From this assessment, we are able to develop a treatment plan that will help you to move forward.

I provide a safe space for you to think about and explore what is happening for you and how you would like things to be different.

At the end of our time in therapy together, I have a number of options to continue to support you if needed, it doesn’t have to be a hard ending.

What is CBT?

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, often referred to as CBT, considers the interaction between thoughts, behaviour, mood and our bodies, including physical sensations. As you may be aware already, this can feel very complex, and leave us feeling trapped and out of control.

CBT can help you to understand the patterns we can get into as people, change negative patterns and therefore improve the way you feel.

CBT can help you by considering overwhelming problems and finding practical ways to help you improve how you are feeling on a daily basis.

CBT can help you to make changes in how you function in daily situations with things such as our friends, families, work, life goals etc.

CBT focusses on your current problems, rather than focussing on issues with your past. It is important to have a strong understanding of you and all that you are, and issues from your past may be relevant and helpful to consider.

I can never thank you enough, when I left I wanted to throw my arm around you and give you the biggest hug.
